Left wingers are once again plotting to seize control of Liverpool city council, according to the Sunday Times (p7).

Six members of the former Militant-dominated leadership have regained their council seats, and several more are expected to do the same in May's elections.

They are part of a group accused of plotting to replace current leader Harry Rimmer with Gideon Ben-Tovim, described as a 'former communist'.

Two weeks ago Cllr Rimmer was deselected by his ward but regional party officials have ordered that the ballot be rerun because of a procedural error.
