Following a meeting of the SNCT yesterday an offer was made by the
management side of a 10 per cent increase in pay for music instructors,
backdated from 1 April 2001, with agreement that a 35-hour working week
would apply from August 2001.
The McCrone agreement proposed considerable change to teachers conditions of
service and pay structure which means that it is no longer appropriate for
there to be a direct percentage link to teachers pay for music instructors.
The management side do feel however that there is a need to look at the
future of pay and conditions for music instructors and therefore seek to
enter into immediate discussions on future pay and conditions.
The full offer put forward at the meeting was:
* A 10 per cent backdated pay increase
* A 35 hour working week
* No automatic link to teachers' pay scale after April 2001
* Immediate discussions on future pay and conditions
