The identity of the new environment minister if Labour wins the election is in doubt, reports The Financial Times (p1).

The paper predicts Labour leader Tony Blair will go against party rules and pick his own streamlined cabinet from among the present elected shadow cabinet. The deputy prime minister would be John Prescott, who may be given a combined transport and environment brief, threatening the chances of current shadow environment secretary Frank Dobson, reports the FT.

The Guardian (p11) continues the speculation over who will be in the cabinet, but does not consider the environment brief.
