North Lanarkshire Council has suffered another set back when a judge rejected its claim for a£720,000 payout, reported The Herald (6 June, p2).

Lord Macfadyen upheld a decision of the Local Government Property Commission that the council was not entitled to a share of the value of the headquarters of the now-defunct Strathkelvin Council.

North Lanarkshire had argued that it was entitled to a share of the proceeds because 19% of the former council's population was now in North Lanarkshire.

However, the judge rejected the appeal, since the property is situated within the new boundaries of East Dunbartonshire Council.
