School governors have been asked to break funding limits and set budgets based on need, reports The Birmingham Post (p3).

A national conference on Saturday of FACE - Fight Against Cuts in Education - also demanded that the teachers' pay settlement be funded in full by the government.

FACE's four basic demands were reaffirmed by the conference: maximum classes of 30; adequate funding for all pupils' needs including special needs; proper spending on school buildings; and nursery education for all three and four year olds.
