Thinking of setting up a small business selling or making food? If you are, or you have already taken the plunge, a useful new booklet has just been launched which offers practical guidance on the do's and don'ts of how to succeed in this growing industry.

'Success With A Small Food Business' is available free from the ministry of agriculture fisheries and food. To order copies, simply telephone 0645 556000 and quote reference number PB 3452.

The booklet was launched by food and farming minister, Lord Donoughue. He said: 'The food industry is becoming an increasingly important part of the UK economy and there has been tremendous growth in the number of small companies joining this expanding sector. Many of these small businesses have asked for practical guidance on the everyday but vital aspects of producing and selling food and we have published this booklet as part of our commitment to supporting the industry.

'Speciality and small food producers are significant employers in rural areas and I want to ensure that these innovative business people continue to play a significant part in the future of our rural

economy. The practical advice set out in the booklet is aimed at present and prospective food producers and those agencies that work alongside them and I hope it will prove a useful tool in helping more small businesses get established and expand.'
