New government noise limits would create problems for airlines using London's airports without improving the quality of life of people living nearby, warns the International Air Transport Association.

The Financial Times reports (p7) the views of the association which believes London's leading position in world aviation could be damaged.

The association said the new restrictions would impede the operations of some of its member airlines and would have 'no impact on the overall perceptions of aircraft noise experienced by people living close to the airports.'
