Welsh councils have welcomed a government announcement that the introduction of housing management CCT in Wales will be postponed.

Housing minister Gwilym Jones used a meeting of the Welsh Housing Consultative Committee last week to announce that he had listened to local authority representations that the original timetable was too tight.

'Every council will have at least two years after reorganisation before housing management must have been put to competition, and longer where areas merge under reorganisation,' he said.

The first contracts will be let in April 1998.
