The first in a new series of publications 'New Directions,' giving examples of innovative local government practice by Scotland's councils has been launched today by COSLA.

Budget Consultation is the first topic covered, and takes case studies from Fife and Stirling Councils.

Commenting on publication, COSLA's chief executive, Douglas Sinclair said: 'Because of resource and time constraints, it is important that councils don't always 'reinvent the wheel' but learn from each other and share experiences - the New Directions series is one way of exchanging information.

'One of the principles underpinning COSLA's own Strategic Plan is

communication and through New Directions we will publish examples of novel local government procedure by individual councils which have wider application and will be of interest to all councils across

Scotland.'
