Watford BC leader Vincent Muspratt has been elected new chair of the Local Government Information Unit.

The Local Government Information Unit represents over 145 councils and local government trade unions at the forefront of modernising local democracy and delivering best value to local people.

'This is a new era for the unit where we will build on the in-depth research, best practice exchange and far reaching policy development which is the bedrock of the unit's reputation,' said Vince.

'The unit is committed to working constructively with the government and all political parties to ensure that the modernisation agenda delivers the greater accountability and high quality services that people deserve.

'We will be building a new consensus among councils and their partners over the way forward for local democracy to become a major force informing the future of local government.'

Cllr Muspratt became leader of Watford Council in 1995. He has been a councillor for 11 years.
