The new government plans to overturn a Scottish Office decision regarding the proposed link on the M80, reports Contract Journal (p1).

Earlier this year, the Scottish Office decided to upgrade the existing A80 dual-carriageway rather than encroach on green belt land with a new route.

Local residents in Cumbernauld and Condorrat who live nearby the dual-carriageway opposed that decision because of the disruption it would cause but have now been told that the decision would be reviewed.

The magazine indicates that the new motorway is likely to become a target for environmental groups if the government does choose a new route.
