Elaine Warner has been appointed by the Association of London Government as head of its office in Brussels. She replaces Ian Hughes who was on secondment in Brussels for 18 months and has now returned to the ALG London office to head up its team dealing with regeneration.

Elaine previously worked for Tower Hamlets LBC in the economic and community development unit where she was involved in all the borough's major regeneration programmes and bids for European and UK funds.

'I want to build on the ground-breaking work on European urban policy started by my predecessor and led by cllr Sally Powell who is one of the people representing London on the EU Committee of the Regions,' said Ms Warner. 'Being in Brussels and working with other capital cities is vital to be able to have an influence on European policy.'

'I also want to work closely with all London boroughs to develop a European strategy for London, identifying key priorities for assistance to the capital so that we can maximise the opportunities for European funding.'

'As well as general urban policy development, I will also be looking closely at other key areas such as transport,' she said.

Elaine will be based at the ALG's office in Brussels at London House, 40 Rue Breydel Brussels.
