Mike Granatt will be appointed head of the government information service with effect from 1 February 1997, in addition to his post as director, communication at the home office.

He succeeds Mike Devereau who is retiring from the civil service.

Mike Granatt joined the Department of Employment after working in journalism. He served as Head of Information at the department of energy, director of public affairs at the metropolitan police service and director of communication at the department of the environment before moving to the Home Office in February 1995.
