In the five years between 1974 to 1979 (during the last Labour government) they built 460,900.

DoE minister Robert Jones said in the written Commons answer, that housing associations are now the main providers of new social housing.

'Local authorities' primary housing tasks are the efficient management of their own stock of housing and enabling other organisations to provide new housing'.
