Telford & Wrekin Council has a new leader following the resignation of Phil Homer, leader for the last seven years.

The controlling Labour group on Tuesday elected Dave Davies as their new leader.

Cllr Davies said:

'I feel proud and honoured to be given the most important role at a crucial time in Telford & Wrekin's development.

'I'm fortunate to have such a strong team of colleagues who will help me meet the challenges ahead, not least the transfer of

housing and the continuous challenge to bring jobs and prosperity to our community.'

The Birmingham Post (31 Oct, p4) reports that Mr Homer will take up a new post as chairman of Telford's Princess Royal Hospital Trust Boards.

He said: 'I thought it was better to go out on a high after a success [the recent transfer of 13,500 local authority houses into tenant control] rather than eventually be forced out if things go wrong.'
