The Home Office has announced that Network Scotland has been awarded a government grant to run a national telephone helpline putting people in touch with local volunteer agencies.
From March 1 a single call will provide anyone, wherever they are in the United Kingdom, with information on how to get involved with local volunteering initiatives.
Home secretary Michael Howard said: 'Network Scotland has a good track record of running helplines such as the National Aids Helpline, NHS helpline and Volunteers' week in Scotland.
'It will complement existing volunteering networks and enhance communication channels on a national basis. The helpline will work in partnership with these networks for the benefit of the entire sector'.
