Education secretary Gillian Shephard today launches the new, slimmed down national curriculum for England and Wales, Today reported.

The new version, drawn up by Sir Ron Dearing, is intended to be less prescriptive and more manageable for schools. Sir Ron has promised teachers there will be no more changes to the curriculum for five years.
