Newcastle City Council has launched an advertising and publicity campaign to encourage more people with disabilities to apply for its jobs.

The Northern Echo (8 June, p10) reported that the council, which employs 190 disabled people, says it wants to reinforce the message that the authority actively encourages applications.

Peter Bowyer, head of human resources, said: 'The city council is committed to breaking down barriers and obstacles that may prevent suitably qualified disbaled people find work with us.'
