Newcastle City Council has agreed a £350,000 deal for what is seen as one of the leading financial software systems in the world, writes The Journal (p31).

Gateshead-based Quality Software Products won the council contract to supply Universal Olas in collaboration with Sun Microsystems of California, which will be supplying computer networking hardware.

The paper reports that once Universal Olas is fully operational the council will be able to use standard PC applications such as Microsoft Office and Lotus SmartSuite alongside other financial software - all able to operate alongside each other simultaneously using technology developed by QSP.
