Newcastle-Under-Lyme BC has scrapped plans to name streets on a new housing estate after characters in a D H Lawrence novel, for being 'a bit ripe' and has demanded that names be drawn from the books of Staffordshire-born author Arnold Bennett.

The Daily Telegraph reports (p6) on proposals to name streets after the infamous novel 'Lady Chatterley's Lover' which were rejected as 'a source of embarrassment' for residents.
