Newham LBC is to use miniature roving cameras to film incidents in high crime areas and disputes between neighbours, reported The Sunday Telegraph (p16).

The council said the cameras were intended to act as a deterrent and to improve community safety.

The smallest cameras are just 1.5 inches square and a half inch thick, and will be concealed in objects such as a clock and mounted inside the screen of council vehicles.

Images can be sent directly to a police control room at the touch of a button. Newham bought the cameras with the help of a£50,000 home office grant.
