Security guards are patrolling an east London zoo after three dozen birds were killed by intruders, reports the Guardian (p8).
Newham LBC officials were distraught after the attack at the Plashet Park zoo, which is funded by the local authority.
A council spokesman told the paper: 'The zoo is important for the children, not just for entertainment, but also for educational purposes.'
Newham LBC leisure services committee chair Lyn Brown told the paper that security staff would patrol the zoo when it was closed.
