The Crown Prosecution Service is to take no action after considering evidence gathered in the course of an investigation into Tameside Enterprises Ltd

The commercial fraud unit of Greater Manchester police started an investigation into the company's activities in January 1994 and submitted a file of evidence to the DPP. Consideration was given as to whether there were grounds to commence a prosecution against any person or persons involved in or connected with Tameside Enterprises Ltd.

Tameside MBC was a shareholder in the company but has now severed all of its links. A council spokesman said: 'It was the council that referred the matter to the police in the first instance, following its own investigation and that of the district auditor.'
