Transport minister Steven Norris (above) has rejected figures from Transport 2000 linking higher transport fares and pollution. Last week the pressure group said fare rises in the south-east would lead to greater car use and more air pollution. 'Fares have risen progressively over the last decade but the increase has been broadly in line with trends in average earnings in the London area,' said Mr Norris.
