North Tyneside MBC has launched a partnership with the private sector which will draw up an economic strategy and aims to attract investment in the area, the Financial Times reports (9 October p6).

The paper says that nearly 40 manufacturing, energy and service companies have agreed to join North Tyneside Economic Partnership. They will help formulate the council's economic strategy and bid for UK and European grants.

The partnership is based on the government's City Challenge model, the FT reports. The council's executive director John Foster said he hoped it would strengthen North Tyneside's grant bids.
