North Wales firefighters yesterday voted to put on hold their threat to resign over changes to working conditions, reports the Western Mail (p1).

FBU members had said they would resign en masses over the dispute, but have decided to meet next week to discuss their options. The union said strikes and resignations had not been ruled out.

Meanwhile, around 1,000 Essex Fire Brigade members will be suspended if they continue to strike, the fire authority has warned.

The East Anglia Daily Times (p9) report says Fire Brigade Union members plan another strike on Tuesday, after holding their third strike yesterday.

The FBU is campaigning against budget cuts of£1.5m but Essex CC says the union is conning the public by saying the cuts could cost lives and more danger comes from the strike action.
