An industrial tribunal ruled that the real reason why a man was not offered a job as a care worker with North Yorkshire CC was because of lack of relevant experience, reports the Daily Telegraph (p3).

The man, Philip Cudworth, made a series of allegations about the competence of women working for the council's family support unit, and claimed that he had not been offered the job because of sexual discrimination.

He lost a case for sexual discrimination last September, and while the tribunal criticised the imbalance of the sexes within its social services department, the tribunal chair said that Mr Cudworth failed in his job interview because his experience, though longer than that of the two women interviewed with him, was not as relevant.
