Northumberland CC social service chiefs and Blyth Valley and Wansbeck BCs' have called for a welfare rights and training guidance service to be set up for local families hit by coal mining job losses following the closure of Ellington Colliery and the British Coal workshops in Ashington, the Newcastle Journal reports (page 11).

The two-year project, co-funded by the Northumberland Training and Enterprise Council will have bases at Blyth, Ashington, Alnwick and Morpeth, the paper reports.
