Nottinghamshire CC has given its backing to a scheme to issue school pupils with 'smart cards' which will monitor their intake of junk food and help research into teenage diet.

The Daily Mail (p28) reports that the Garibaldi School in Forest Town will start a trial of the cards, which will cost about£11,000.

Susan Harris of Nottinghamshire CC catering services department told the paper: 'Pupils think it's great. They think it will stop any bullying and it will get rid of the stigma of having free school meals because everyone will use the same system.'
