The Independent (p2) reports that councillors in Nottinghamshire are to announce today that they have worked out a deal to end a teachers' strike over a disruptive pupil.

Nottinghamshire CC is believed to be seeking legal backing from ministers to keep the pupil out of classes and to teach him at home, in another school or in isolation.

The paper says that Nottinghamshire CC education chair Fred Riddell was last night discussing plans with other councillors and said that he would be writing to education secretary Gillian Shephard today.
