The government's nursery voucher scheme will cost £43m in Wales, according to education minister Jonathan Evans in a written answer to Labour's Barry Jones, MP for Alyn and Deeside.

The Western Mail (p3) says that Labour believes that the scheme's introduction in Wales is totally unnecessary as the majority of four year olds attend nursery school already.

The North East Wales education forum has argued that proposals for the collection and administration of nursery vouchers in Wales could create a bureaucratic nightmare, reports the paper on the same page.
