A senior officer at Midlothian Council has appeared in court charged with assaulting his 17-year-old daughter.

Ian Jackson, 47, director of corporate services at Midlothian, denied the charge when he appeared at Edinburgh sheriff court last Wednesday.

Trevor Muir, chief executive of Midlothian Council, confirmed allegations of assault had been made which Mr Jackson would be required to answer in court in due course, but said he had not been suspended from his post.

Mr Jackson was bailed to return to Edinburgh sheriff court in January.

An exact date has not yet been set for the trial.
