Two officers at Middlesbrough BC have kept their jobs after being found responsible for losing£557,000 in housing subsidy.

Management consultants from Price Waterhouse discovered that human error was to blame for the loss during the current financial year. The council has confirmed that disciplinary action, falling short of dismissal, has been taken against the officers involved.

Price Waterhouse said changes created by reorganisation led to the risk of mistakes, although some control weaknesses were found.
