Refuse collection giant Onyx is close to losing one of its biggest contracts.

Camden LBC members are soon to consider a recommendation from officers that a new five-year contract worth £35 million should not go to Onyx.

Onyx said it could run the service for £9.5m a year, but an unnamed rival company has bid to do the work for £7m.

The council has met once to discuss the recommendation but deferred a decision in light of concerns over the new company's financial status.

Its losses are said to have amounted to £6.3m last year. Councillors have asked for more information from officers on its financial viability and how it intends to do the work.
