Evidence of poor financial management has been discovered in a number of grant maintained schools, according to research from the National Audit Office, the Daily Telegraph reports (p5).

The NAO report, which looked at 70 of the 942 grant maintained schools in England and Wales, is likely to cause embarrassment for the government who have always claimed local authority control to be inappropriate, the paper reports.
