Total orders received by contractors for construction work in the UK in the fourth quarter of 1992 were 9% lower than in the third quarter of 1992 and 10% lower than in the fourth quarter of 1991.

These provisional figures are based on the value of orders at constant (1985) prices adjusted to exclude normal seasonal variations.

Public housing and housing association orders in the fourth quarter were 3% higher than in the previous quarter and 26% higher than in the same quarter a year earlier.

New orders in the private housing sector in the fourth quarter of 1992 were 24% lower than in the previous quarter and 18% lower than in the corresponding quarter a year ago.
