A senior Orkney Islands Council official has been made redundant and another suspended as the authority yesterday announced an investigation into the operation of its direct services organisation, The Herald reports (p4).

A council spokesman said:

'Orkney Islands Council has confirmed that it is currently conducting an internal investigation into a number of matters relating to the operations of its direct services organisation and the difficulties within the DSO which have already been well publicised.'

Earlier this month, the council confirmed that builders from the DSO wearing council overalls had been seen working on the home of a sewerage department engineer.
