Camden LBC has sparked Tory anger by booking in up to 100 asylum-seekers at an upmarket outdoor pursuits centre in Carmathen, in the Welsh valleys, according to the Sunday People (p9).

The cost, according to the newspaper, is£120 a week per head - plus£24 rail fare. The refugees get free food and clothing, but have to pay for any holiday activities themselves. Camden officers claim it is cheaper to send them to the holiday camp than house them in London.

But Ann Winterton, Conservative MP for Congleton, said: 'This will outrage hard-working taxpayers. Under no circumstances should we be sending refugees to Wales on a kind of holiday venture'.
