Oxfam has been awarded nearly£800,000 by the lottery for a new social inclusion project aimed at lifting people out of poverty.

The charity was given the grant to help fund a three-year programme working alongside poor communities to help support anti-poverty activities.

Barbara Stocking, Oxfam's UK director, said the grant was recognition of the work Oxfam does.

She said: 'Poverty exists everywhere and Oxfam wants to challenge poverty world wide - including the UK. Oxfam has unique experience which it can use to find

innovative and effective solutions to problems of poverty at home.'
