People of Oxfordshire are among those enjoying the highest standard of living in the country outside London, reports BBC Oxford.

An economic survey by Oxfordshire CC shows the county is third, behind Berkshire and Buckinghamshire, in jobs and earnings, with all three well ahead of other parts of England. An economic profile of Oxfordshire constructed by council officers revealed Oxfordshire to be so prosperous that residents enjoy a standard of life on a par with Denmark.

Martin Stott, who compiled the report, said Oxfordshire's rich diversity of commercial and manufacturing activity means its economy has kept going while others have suffered during recession.

He added that Oxfordshire had the lowest unemployment rate of any county in England and Wales and average male earnings were above the national average. On the downside, manual women workers in the county were earning less than the national average.
