The leader of Birmingham City Council has warned the introduction of charges for drivers to park at work could be a disaster for Labour, according to the Birmingham Post (p1).

Councillor Albert Bore said the plans would only work if£400m was first put into public transport in the Midlands.

Birmingham is considering introducing the charges along with all other councils in the West Midlands except Solihull and Coventry.

Cllr Bore said if the government could not find the money it should relax council spending rules so that Birmingham could raise the cash itself from the European Investment Bank.
