Watford BC and Three Rivers DC are establishing a shared back-office programme for human resources, information technology, finance and revenues and benefits, which other councils may join.

Their business case predicts a combined£1.6m of annual savings.

The county council is leading work on procurement, where councils believe there is potential for£1.5bn of savings this year and£3.2bn in 2009-10 if further good practice is adopted.

District children’s trust partnerships are established in all 10 districts, which also have children and young people’s plans in place, supported by a joint strategic commissioning team.

Hertfordshire CC and East Hertfordshire DC have made a joint appointment of two graduate planners who will work for both councils over two years.

Work on infrastructure investment, waste and economic development is in progress.
