The government will be unable to reach its goal of a 1,000 grant- maintained schools by April, because of a sharp decline in schools opting-out, says a local authority funded pressure group, reports the TES (p3).

Local Schools information said the number of ballots on GM status had plummeted since last autumn. Of 26 schools which have held opt out ballots half have rejected the idea, said the group.
