The private finance initiative is examined in detail in an advertisement feature in the Birmingham Post (p31-p33).

In one article paymaster general Geoffrey Robinson praises PFI schemes in the Midlands, including a£50m project to maintain and repair primary and secondary schools agreed between Birmingham City Council and the private sector.

He writes: '...I want to ensure that future projects using the private finance initiative are treated as real partnerships for the benefit of local residents, contributing to the regeneration of their communities and public services.'
