The run down house of a wealthy North East peer is at the centre of an inquiry by environmental health officers in Guisborough, reported the Northern Echo (January 13, p1).

The house, which has broken windows and missing roof slates is rented out by Lord Guisborough's estate, but he insists that he now has no personal interest in the property.

Redcar and Cleveland BC's public protection department says it can take no action unless the property poses structural or environmental health dangers.

But, says the paper, the council and the estate have been working together to find a solution.
