Maurice Hughes, leader of the Independent-run council, said the increase from£61,545 to a minimum of£65,400 was intended to boost recruitment and retention.

Chief executive Bryn Parry Jones has had his salary increased to£80,000 following a review by independent consultants. This compares with a Joint National Council benchmark of£74,300 for a council of Pembrokeshire's size.
