Local authorities preparing for compulsory competitive tendering of housing management will be able to follow the experience of pilot authorities housing minister Sir George Young has said.

Mr Young said: 'The main lessons of the pilot programme are the need for authorities to develop a corporate approach to housing management, to have clear aims and objectives for the housing service and to see that these are adequately reflected in contract specifications.

'Tenants also have a vital role to play to ensure that the customer's perspective is fully accommodated', the minister added.

The ninth report, which completes the series, Issues for Small Authorities, draws on the work of consultants Coopers and Lybrand with Mid-Suffolk DC.
