Trade and industry secretary Peter Mandelson is to launch a six month review into how planning processes can promote the needs of clusters of businesses in growth industries, reported the Financial Times (Dec 12, p7).

The paper cites Cambridgeshire, Berkshire and Oxfordshire as areas of

potential growth for high-technology industries, which could be aided by changes to the planning process. An example of the dilemma Mr Mandelson's review is designed to address is South Cambridgeshire DC's recent rejection of a scheme to build a science park, which is being pursued by deputy prime minister John Prescott.
