Merseyside's local authorities and the Mersey Partnership are drawing up an action plan with a view to setting up a Brussels office to lobby for more aid from the European Union, reports the Daily Post (Business Post, p1).

The partnership's chief executive, Chris Gibaud, said that Merseyside was now one of the few regions which did not have some form of representation in Brussels.

'There is a lot more to be had from Europe apart from Objective One. We have failed to achieve other funding rights in the recent past,' Mr Gibaud said.

'There is a strongly held view that we need to be represented in Brussels and we need to be able to operate a lobby there.'

Discussions have so far involved Sefton MBC and the Liverpool City Council-run Merseyside European Liaison Unit.
