Police have decided to bring no charges against Western Isles Council, following an inquiry into alleged corruption in the awarding of contracts at the authority, the Scotsman reports (p4).

The investigation involved the tendering of the public lighting and gritting contracts.

The council's convenor, Donald Mackay, expressed his delight that the 'unwarranted slur' on the good name of the council and its officers had been removed.
